If you wish to dramatically transform a block of stone to create whatever shape your imagination tells you, you will probably need to remove a large amount of “waste.” In this workshop, you will be introduced to the ancient traditional methods and tools that enable us to do that. It is fun and it is hard work.
Chris Pellettieri was trained in an apprenticeship program at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City in 1989. Following the apprenticeship, he ran a successful business doing commissions for individuals and institutions public and private. In 2015, he started the Pellettieri Stone Carvers’ Academy to promote the activity of stone carving and to provide training in its’ ancient traditional methods. There have been three training programs to date: one for teenagers on summer break (six weeks), one for sculptors aspiring to carve their art in stone (also six weeks) and currently we are running the first four-month, full-time, paid apprenticeship for veterans.
