workshop | Introduction to Backstrap Weaving

Weaving Hand - Saturday June 3 & Sunday June 4
Factory Floor
2 hours
Saturday June 3
Sunday June 4

In Backstrap Weaving, one end of the loom is bound to a post or tree while the other is tied around the weaver’s waist. The weaver becomes just as much a part of the loom as the weaving itself. In this introductory backstrap workshop, the student will learn some basic weaving techniques such as interlocking, vertical stripe and rya knot. Each student will complete a necklace, headpiece, strap, or belt.

Weaving Hand is a Brooklyn based weaving studio and healing arts center. We celebrate a fusion of traditional and contemporary weaving techniques with our studio classes, workshops, commissions, outreach programs and exhibitions all while embracing sustainable and ethical practices.
